Cobra King F8 Driver Review – An Honest Opinion

Today’s review will focus on the Cobra King F8 Driver. Following my testing, I’ll share my opinions. The F8 fairway wooden was one that I used before I bought this driver. It was also one of my favorites, so I expected good results from it. Was it as good?

Long story short, it wasn’t my favorite driver in the world, but I definitely liked it and would give it a thumbs up. It wasn’t my favorite looking driver and I prefer my driver to be a bit heavier, but I’m not saying it’s not good (for some reason, I still prefer my old Callaway driver over these new ones). I thought the F8 was better than F7 and had more forgiveness for off-center hits. As with the Callaway clubs, it was super simple to correctly align the ball. It had a nice deep sound at impact and felt really solid. This version also has a much higher launch angle, which is cool. Overall, I would recommend the F8 driver.

That’s great if that is all you needed. But if you want a more detailed review of the driver, be sure to watch the full video or blog post below!

Dominic Choma (Club Fitter) At first glance, Cobra’s new F8/F8+ drivers appear different from any other available driver. CNC milling grooves make the F8 and F8+ clubs look different. CNC milling processes are different for every F8+ drivers than hand polishing. The F8+ line is unique because of the many benefits it offers in terms both performance and manufacturing tolerances.

The CNC milling technology allows Cobra make the clubface smaller for better performance. A thinner clubface will deflect more at impact, which will provide faster ball speeds to the golfer, especially on mishits. What this means is that the golfer will see more distance on shots hit on different parts of the clubface, whether it be off the toe, heel, high, and low. Seeing that even the best players in the world do not hit the center of the clubface every time, gaining ball speed on shots that are not hit perfectly is a benefit that every golfer will see on the course. Also, lighter clubsfaces will have a lower weight than those with thicker faces. The clubface can be removed to allow for more forgiveness and better performance. In many cases, this weight will be nearer the back of the clubshead. It will stabilize the clubhead and make it easier to catch mis-hits.

CNC milling by machine produces more precision than manual polishing by hand when it comes to manufacturing tolerances. This allows the F8 series to have tighter manufacturing tolerances than drivers of other brands. In other words: F8 drivers will produce more identical clubheads to those of another brand. Golfers who purchase an F8 driver can expect greater consistency and safety.

This sounds wonderful, but most people just want numbers. For this test, I used both the F8 and F8+ clubheads set at the 9.5 degree setting, with the Mitsubishi Chemical Tensei Blue 70 X Flex Shaft that I use in my current gamer. To see how the weight settings differ, I tried both the F8 and F8+ clubheads. You will notice a quick change in my swing speed after I started the SuperSpeed Speed training program and a swing modification. Also, the launch conditions affect my performance. My average launch speed and spin rate are slightly slower. Comparing the test results to last year’s, you will see that my clubhead speed increases are not due solely to the F8 driver, but it helps.
