Although the R11 might be most talked about, it’s not the only option for those who want to drive the ball around and hit the tarmac. The new Burner is a great alternative. It may not be adjustable, but it’s full of innovation. TaylorMade believes that the longer shaft will mean more miles.

Taylormade 2009 Burner Driver Review

Each and every year more and more clubs are coming out promising longer and straighter drives. TaylorMade’s Burner family is a strong one. Introduced in 1983 by Burner Plus, the driver quickly gained popularity with golfers of every skill level for its extraordinary blend of power and forgiveness. After the Burner Plus driver was introduced in 1986, came the Burner Boom in 1995. TaylorMade brought in a new Burner driver in 2007. He became the highest-seller driver for both the 2007 year and 2008 seasons. Sergio Garcia won last year’s Players Championship with the Tour Burner. It was his driver and the most used on tour. The Hackers Paradise knows how I felt about 2008. It was disappointing for Taylormade, but I was happy with the 2007 model. Are THP’s reviewers returning to Burner Land in 2009?

Even though this driver has been available for some time, we felt the need to bring it up again for our readers. Taylormade R9 Driver reviews really helped us to see the latest equipment they had released for this year.

Taylormade sent a loaner that we could try and then reviewed. For clubs and particularly drivers, first impressions matter. This one was a bit different from our initial opinions. We fell in love with the shape of the head and were eager to test it. This club is significantly longer than those of our test drivers. That worried us. This Headcover requires some attention. It doesn’t take into account all of the technology contained in these driver.

This new driver for the Burner cleverly combines SuperFast technology in the 2007 Burner with Dual Crown technology in the Tour Burner. You can see the results? In theory a driver weighing less than 300 grams that promotes faster swing speed, a higher launch angle and lower spin-rate, equaling a dramatic boost in distance. We took the driver out on the range with some long-hitters as well as our THP Teaching Professional for a demonstration session. After warming up, everyone took turns hitting the driver with range balls. In a rare situation, all of us had similar feedback. Although it looks long, it is not obvious that the driver could be a problem. However, it was only noticeable after 4-5 swings. However, everyone noticed how much longer we were traveling. All early testers thought that the driver was about as long as any other we’ve tested. The 2nd thing that stood out for us was how low spin the driver was and it had a nice penetrating ball flight. Each of us left feeling very satisfied.

After our first day of testing, we felt we needed more feedback. With the driver in hand, we headed out to a busy range for some feedback. Nearly all the players commented on how the head shape is different from traditional. However, because of clever graphics placements you feel like you’re standing above a classic shaped head. Every golfer tried out their existing driver, then switched to the Taylormade Burner. The results were what we expected given our first day results. Twenty-three golfers visited our club. 19 prefer the Burner. To be fair, of the 23 golfers that participated, only 12 had drivers that were newer than 2006. It was huge, however, that 19 players out of 23 participated. There was a lot of feedback. Most thought it would be hard to control initially, but once they took some swings with it had no problems. Actually, the highest handicappers seem to love the club and its control better than any other club they’ve tried. The Burner was a great tool for ensuring that the ball is hitting straighter with those who fought the control.

I decided to personally take it out on the course for a couple of weeks worth of rounds and see what the verdict was on a course with very tight fairways. The fade I played with the ball from the tee was still there, however the effect with the Burner was less noticeable. The distance seemed to be increasing, just like others. But, I wasn’t seeing the same 10 yards as others. After 5 rounds I felt pretty confident in the driver. A driver that combines certain elements is guaranteed to be successful. I was extremely happy with how the stock shaft performed. Taylormade really has improved their stock shaft offering in recent times. The Burner includes a light grip and SuperFastRE*AX49-gram graphite shaft. It worked perfectly with my club head to give me one after another great drive.

Overall we think that Taylormade has put out two great lines for the 2009 season. The R9 impressed us when it was reviewed last month. Now that we’ve seen the Burner again, we feel even more confident in Taylormade’s new drivers. The Taylormade 2009 Burner is a great choice if you’re looking for a driver. The lofts are 9.5Adeg and 10.5Adeg. They also have HT (high trajectory). There are two versions: one for left-handed women and one for right-handed men. Available now at all stores, the manufacturer has suggested retail prices of $400. Taylormade Golf Till Next time Josh B. has more information.

Does The Taylormade Burner Make a Good Driver?

Burner’s driver is able to launch high and give higher ball flights. It’s slightly higher when you compare the ball flight with other drivers. Burner drivers have a greater carry distance which makes it easier to hit longer drives. The overall distance of the club seems to be better than average.
