Safeway Return Policy 2022 (No Receipt, Food + Pharmacy)
Safeway is a well-known store for their flexibility. They offer several ways for customers to save on purchase, have friendly store associates and a large selection of groceries.
Safeway customers can return or exchange most merchandise provided they retain the receipt. Customers must also be able to show the receipt when returning items to the original store they purchased. Both perishable and non-perishable items can be returned excluding Alcohol and baby formula.
Without receipt, can I return groceries to Safeway?
Safeway requires that all customers return their merchandise within 30 days of receipt. However, if customers don’t have a receipt, customers have the option of making an even exchange.
If they would prefer to be refunded, the store associate assisting them may be able to look up the transaction on their computer if they paid with a credit/debit card.
However, if they are unable to locate any proof of purchase, Safeway will instead put the refund on a Safeway Gift Card.
Additionally, if the refund being requested is $5 or less, the store manager may approve a cash refund.
Are there any time limits on Safeway’s returns?
Safeway does not have a company-wide time limit for making returns as each return is handled on a case-by-case basis, depending on the type of product a customer is returning.
Management of stores can use discretion to determine a reasonable return time.
A non-perishable product may be granted a longer grace period than a meat, produce or other perishable goods.
To ensure full reimbursement, customers should bring in their purchased items as quickly as possible, due to the unknown return time limits.

Safeway doesn’t charge customers to return items or make exchanges as 2022.
Customers who request a refund or exchange will only be reimbursed if the receipt they received is valid.

If a customer needs to make a return at Safeway, they can do so at the customer service/reception desk.
Customers can only return products to the Safeway location where they were purchased. No returns will be accepted for items purchased at a different Safeway store.
Your Safeway customer service representative may be open during different times than other stores.
It is recommended that you call the store to verify hours for customer service before returning items.
What Products Can I Return to Safeway?
Safeway will accept both perishable (and non-perishable) items back to its store.
Food products such as meat, fresh vegetables and fruit, prepared food items, dairy products, and other perishables are all acceptable for returns.
Consumables as well as non-consumables are considered to be non-perishable. You can return or exchange cleaning products, hygiene care, kitchenware, and any other non-perishable items.
Safeway recommends that perishables be returned as quickly as possible to avoid delays.
Safeway might also allow flowers to be returned in their flower section.
This decision may rest with the store manager and may not be possible to refund.
What Products Does Safeway Not Accept for Returns?
Safeway accepts most products as returns, but they do not currently accept baby formula or alcohol.
Safeway is unable to accept gift vouchers for exchange or return, since they are not considered store merchandise.
Safeway each has its own return policy. This means that some Safeway locations might not accept any returns of expired meat, dairy products or other spoilt food.
For a chance to be reimbursed, we urge customers to promptly return all perishable goods.
Can I Return Items to the Safeway Starbucks?
Safeway Starbucks accepts returns on all cups, packages of tea and coffee as long as the items are unopened and returned within 30 calendar days.
Starbucks is able to remake any beverage that has been improperly made, even though customers can technically not return them.
Customers will be required to throw out the old drink, since they can’t usually take back any drinks handed to them. But, it may vary by kiosk.
Safeway Starbucks requires their customers to have a receipt in order to process a return, as not every kiosk is able to look up previous transactions.
Additionally, some kiosks may be allowed to grant a refund onto store credit if the customer does not have a receipt, but this may vary per kiosk.
Starbucks gift cards may be returned provided the customer retains the receipt.
Clearance sale items may also be eligible for return/exchange, as long they don’t bear a sticker indicating final sale.
Are Safeway Pharmacy able to accept returns?
Safeway Pharmacy cannot handle retail returns. Items purchased in the pharmacy section, such hygiene products and other items must be returned to customer service.
Safeway Pharmacy in British Columbia (Canada) says they offer a service where patients can dispose of any medications that have been discontinued or are not being used anymore.
Safeway Pharmacy cannot reimburse customers for returned medication because they can’t refund prescriptions.
Safeway Canada offers a different Return Policy
Safeway’s return policy for Canada is identical to the US.
Safeways Canada does not sell alcohol, but they are different from US-based stores. There is not a statement on the Safeways’ return policy regarding alcohol returns.
