Which Vole Poison Is Best in November 2021? – Buyer’S Guide

The presence of voles within your yard is bad news. This will make your efforts to have an attractive lawn and keep it clean difficult. They are herbivorous and can cause damage to plants and trees as they eat bark and roots. Your efforts to eliminate these stubborn rodents are neutralized by their complex habitat since they live in underground burrows. In addition, their tunneling capabilities make them able to kill your plants and build ugly surface runways within your yard. This article is meant to relieve you of the stress involved in eliminating voles. It offers crucial tips that guarantee complete removal of the rodents.

To get rid of voles, there are many options. You should consider many factors before choosing the best product. It is important to think about the safety level of family members as well as pets. We recommend that you use warfarin-based rodenticides to control the voles. They are safer for pets and more effective than other methods.

After extensive research, it is clear that there are some products that stand apart more than others. And the winner is Kaput Rat & Mouse Bait.

Poison Rodent Baits And A Conscientious Method For Vole Control

There are a few vole predators that live on our land. Our cats and a family of screech owls that nest in the barrel of the old windmill pictured here above our favorite cat, Gus. Because they are excellent natural predators of other snake species, we do not kill them. These two are good for keeping rodents under control. Sometimes however, the population of voles becomes too large for their natural predators. In this case they may infest your home. So what do you do if voles have over-taken your yard, destroying your prized landscape, but you are concerned about the impact using a poison bait might have on wildlife? This is an environmentally conscious concern and one that people are considering more and more. California tried to repeal the second generation anticoagulant rodenticides last year but it was rejected. Instead, they would enforce stricter rules for the first generation ARs. SGARs can be toxic because only one dose is required. The active ingredient of poison baits is crucial to control voles and other rodents. Let’s take a look at why we think Kaput Rat, Mouse and Vole Bait is the most conscientious choice on the market, and especially the best choice for the control of voles when used responsibly with the Vole Control Bait Station System Kaput is the least toxic rodenticide on the market with an active ingredient of Warfarin. I discovered a rival bait that was heavily promoted as a vole-control tool in a recent Internet search. Bromadiolone, which is a second generation poison, is the active component in this particular bait. Consider the following:

According to a University of Nebraska research, 50-pound dogs can be fatally poisoned by Bromadiolone. dog would only have to consume 4.1 ounces of Bromadiolone to cause death while the dog would have to consume over 20 times this amount of Warfarin at 113.50 ounces for the same effect. (Source: Prevention and Control of Wildlife Damage University of Nebraska and MSDS card, University of Nebraska Merck Veterinary Manuals.

Warfarin does not accumulate in the liver as second-generation poisons. The rodent can quickly process it, and it may be out of its system before it dies. The amount of Warfarin that voles consume is not sufficient to cause death. It’s very unlikely that any other animals will ingest it.

Warfarin also contains vitamin k-1 as an antidote. It’s a great plus for pet owners. Once again, we can not stress enough how important it is that you use the bait stations specifically made for voles to make sure your application goes smoothly.

Read more about the active component in Kaput Rat Bait, Mouse Bait and Vole Bait here:

Many articles on controlling voles are available online that recommend the use of second-generation, more toxic baits. These more toxic baits are just not necessary for the average homeowner to gain control of voles. The only way to get complete control of voles is through vigilance, and the use of the appropriate system.

Of course, we recommend our Vole Control Bait Station System for the most efficient, effective and safest application of Kaput Vole Bait. By using the Bait Station System, non-target animals are kept safe. Additionally, the station is instructed to replenish stations regularly to conserve bait. It allows for the effective application of Kaput Vole Bait to every vole in the colony. Kaput Vole Bait, with its seed-like and granular formula that can be easily handled by voles, is used to create the bait station system. This encourages voles’ natural instinctive activity of returning food to their nests for the colony. Note: block-style baits do not allow this type activity so they are less likely to eradicate the variety of ages of voles in an entire colony.

Does Standard Rodenticides and Vole Poison Have a Difference?

There are many different rodenticides available. It is easy to see why the National Pesticide Information Center’s rodenticides page can be so overwhelming. The majority of rodenticides may be called anticoagulants. There are two types of rodenticides: anticoagulants (i.e. poisons that cause blood to clot in victims) and non-anticoagulants, which may work in different ways. One of these is bromadiolone brodifacoum and warfarin. Other non-anticoagulant Rodenticides include bromethalin (bromethalin), cholecalciferol, strychnine, and zinc phosphide.

These types aren’t the only ones that can cause vole poisons. Vole poisons are different than most other rodenticides in that they have a unique design. Vole poisons are made to bait out voles and moles rather than mice and rats because there are differences in the diets of indoor and outdoor rodents. Also, the vole poison needs to be water-resistant to keep it from deteriorating in changing weather conditions. Vole poison must be safe for soil, plants, wildlife, and other animals on and around your property.

Mole Control

Molehills can ruin a gorgeous lawn. Moles will be more active at night and on cloudy mornings in the spring and fall. Moles are often discouraged by many techniques, including vibration and ultrasonic devices and chewing of gum. These methods can be very ineffective, though. Mothballs are also ineffective and illegal as they constitute misuse of pesticides.

The first choice for homeowners is poisoning, but it may not always be the most cost-effective or the best. The active tunnel can be used to insert poisoned bromethalin pellets or gummy worms. They may present a risk for pets and people and could possibly get into the food chain. They can end up in waterways if poison baits remain untreated. When using any type of poison or chemical, carefully read and follow the label instructions.

For active mole tunnels, you can also use a trap styled after harpoons.

Barbara H. Smith. (c.2017 HGIC), Clemson extension trapping is one the best ways to rid yourself of moles. Mole traps come in many forms, including chokers, impalings, chokers, pitfalls and scissor-jaweds. Most effective mole traps can be used in winter and fall months, and should not be placed on top of active tunnels. Snap traps that are baited using peanut butter or mousetraps will not catch moles. A few moles, or even one, can be a significant problem.

One control tactic is to decrease or eliminate food availability for moles. While grub treatment of a lawn can be a popular practice, it does not promote ecological sustainability as it reduces other wildlife’s access to food. Moles simply will switch to insects or earthworms as a food source. In May, systemic grub treatment that contains imidacloprid can be applied to lawn areas. These are available in ready-to-spray, hose-end sprayers, or granular formulations. Granular products can be easier to apply, however you must irrigate your lawn with at least 12 inch water right away after applying them. These products will not rot in the grass for the rest of the growing season because they are systemic. Contact insecticides, which contain either trichlorfon (or carbaryl) and can be applied as granular grub killers in July. These grubs have a small size and are close to the lawn surface. The contact insecticide is very effective at eradicating them. The contact insecticide will stay in place for around two weeks. Applications in the fall and late summer are not as efficient as they will kill older grubs deeper in the ground. Neither of these methods is completely successful, as the moles will switch to other prey. Castor oil products are available that repel both moles and voles. Castor oil products used to repel voles or moles are temporary and not highly effective.

Voles are voracious pests that eat the roots of trees and other desirable plants. As you can see in this photograph, 1/4 inch of grooves are made in the wood by one side of the vole’s front teeth.
