For most homeowners, we recommend using an electric pressure washer. Electric models are simpler to operate and maintain than their gas counterparts. While gas washers can be more powerful than electric, the majority of people do not need that much extra power for their daily chores around the house. The quiet-running brushless induction motor of the Ryobi RY142300 should last for years, and the machine’s heft helps make it particularly hard to tip over, even when you’re forcefully tugging on the hose. This sturdy design, along with the larger wheels and cable and hose management make the RY142300 one of our most user-friendly washers. The company’s three-year limited warranty is also the longest we found. While the RY142300 may be more costly than some pressure washers but it offers great value if you intend to use it more often than once a month.

This is a crucial part of maintaining a clean home. The pressure washer can be used to clean hard surfaces around your house. There are many options for pressure washers: electric, gas and other.

To be effective in heavy-duty cleaning, residential pressure washers need to focus on the pressure aspect. Pressure is often measured in pounds per inch. With one exception, the 4,200-psi washer that I was afforded enough to be tested in this group, all of my washers measured between the mid-2,000s and upper 3,000s psi.
The washers I tested are all gas-powered pressure washer models. Many electric pressure washers will reach maximum pressures of around 2,000psi. You will find an electric power washer listed in your local hardware shop as a light-duty washer. These washers are usually less than $200 and the most cost effective. Although it seems like 2,000 PSI is sufficient for power cleaning, considering that most of your residential plumbing, including the garden hose, only has 60 PSI for water flow, it’s still a low enough setting for pressure washing.
A commercial pressure washer, designed for power cleaning professionals, usually starts at 3500 psi. It has a higher flow rate than residential washers. I omitted those too, and instead focused on gas pressure washer models between $250-$600. It is possible to test
With each washer, I used multiple nozzle tip varieties for each activity. Starting with concrete driveway, I used a portion of it. The surface was often not as smooth as I would have liked, so the green tips did not work well. Even though they were effective, the red tips only cleaned a very small area. The yellow tip is a good choice because it provides both focused pressure as well as a wide spray area. Although the difference is very small, between many washers there are noticeable differences in spray width and pressure. I was able to notice these variations when I tested them with different tips. I believe there is a manufacturing difference. The 0-degree tip is the most consistent. Because there was so little variance between units, the red tip seemed to be the best. Although all washers could clean concrete properly, the most challenging was the one that did not leave out a 15% tip.

After the driveway inspection, I run each washer through a gauntlet. Where the large concrete slabs meet, to form my driveway I’ve allowed the happy little herbs to grow in anticipation. However, no weed beat any pressure washer fitted with a tip.
Next, I had two options of wood to consider. First, a plywood made from hardwood. One-inch sections of construction-grade lumber (1×12) were used in the second. Most likely, these are made from pine. It is important to remember that a wood-colored tip should not be used. The jet spray is like a little tornado that rips through wood. It was fascinating to observe how water can bring the boards back to a clean, fresh appearance after I had backed up to the yellow tips. These boards will be skinned by the yellow tip if it is not held in place for more than a few seconds. Any other tip can be used for wood applications.
Vinyl siding was my biggest surprise. I created a small wall from basic, but not expensive vinyl siding. Although I expected the worst, it didn’t happen. It was damaged by my attempt to douse it with 4,200 PSI and a point-blank red tip, but I didn’t get any. Vinyl siding can be cleaned with pressure washers. Pressure washers are faster than manual methods and much more effective. I always worried that my tip might get too close to the siding or I would accidentally chew through it. However, this was not the case. Even though I’d not advise you to remove siding from your home with a sharpened tip, the majority of other methods should work fine provided that you follow all manufacturer’s recommendations.
