Tour Edge Exotics Exs Driver Review
No matter the topic, the main focus of discussion about new driver releases is always price. It is easy to perceive the price as too high and then get blasted about how that makes it unaccessible. But if it’s too low, it can be an issue with the quality of the technology used. When I was shown the technology behind the Tour Edge Exotics ExS driver, then informed the price, it brought a smile to my face.
Exotics from Tour Edge have always had the highest prices we have ever seen. They even went as far as fairway woods, which were nearly as expensive as drivers. The reason was always the exotic materials and methods being used in the designs, and almost every time the clubs were high end performers. Tour Edge’s EXS driver is priced at $299.99. But the best part is that they don’t sacrifice any technology. In fact, I think this driver is Tour Edge’s most technologically advanced driver. This is why the price? David Glod’s company believes that the EXS driver design is a winner. And they will roll it out to customers at an attractive price. David actually sat down with THP, and with brutal honesty discussed the intricacies of the EXS driver design and why they made the decision they did:
EXS is available in two loft options: 10.5deg and 9.5deg. With an adapter that allows +/– 2deg adjustments both ways, it can hit all loft options. For this review, I worked with the 10.5deg version paired with the real deal Mitsubishi Tensei CK Blue 2g in 70S playing at the stock 45.5″ length.
Upon opening the box, the first thing that slapped me was the looks of the driver. The box is triangular, but not as much as the classic pear shape. It’s still very subtle and elegant. You can see the carbon fiber crown, which is partially translucent to showcase the tech. Also the glossy finish with subtle deep blue metal flake accents really makes the light shine. The dark face and blended sole design rounds out a look that is modern but doesn’t get too busy as it keeps the adjustability and weight system clean and balanced. All in all, this car is the most attractive I’ve seen so far this year. I think it rivals every other model.
Impact is marked by the EXS, which represents the largest departure of a Tour Edge driver to date. Carbon Fiber is used in the sole crown and toe. They have certainly dampened sound/feel. Carbon Fiber has been used in so many drivers that this is “the new standard”. Although traditionalists may not be a fan, they will enjoy the sound. You will notice a slight sound shift when the driver is in use. The impact sound can get louder if the driver is used at extreme speeds. EXS provides a smooth, non-blurred experience on misses.
We will continue to this section with the data I received from Foresight GC2 but let’s get into it. I was seeing lower flights due to the winter swing and the poor weather. But, once things got back on track, the Tensei 70S’ 10.5 degree loft started shining through. My launch speed was around 12deg with peak peaks in 13s. This is a good result and something I am looking for in a gamer. Here’s a nod to Tour Edge for choosing a Tensei 2G shaft. This should calm some pessimists. And it was only $299.99. Where adjustability goes, the adapter works well with +/- 2deg available and adjustments opened and closed the face as is typically the case. Tour Edge sells a complete weight set for $59.99. I didn’t bother with the weights much as the 9g in each heel and 3g back seemed to be the most comfortable.
The EXS will have a perception about it because of its low price. This preconception implies that spin is not available to everyone. I also believe the EXS will appear to offer more spin than other tiers. As seen by the data above, that is not what I saw. Initial sessions in colder climates averaged about 2300 RPM. My final sessions similar to the one below settled around 2600 RPM. When I got into a lighter weight than I normally use, (194g) was what my EXS Head weighed. Based on my swing traits, the EXS is among the lower spin heads I have hit this year, which to be honest even I wasn’t expecting, falling victim to the aforementioned preconceptions myself. Although some may see 2300-2600 in their eyes and say it’s impossible for them, the truth is that too many golfers have been brainwashed through the 17deg & 1700 RPM campaigns. I have no doubt that the EXS is extremely tunable and the use of FTS will give ample opportunities for golfers to dial in the head to a variety of swing needs.

You know the saying new year…new driver…wait a minute, I am not 100% sure if that is how it goes, but I digress.
New Year’s is for me a time when I stop golfing and look closely at my bag. It allows me to evaluate if there are any improvements or changes I could make to it. Or if I just keep it the way it is. Now there really isn’t a special formula as to why I choose the new year, it really is based on timing. One – it is hard to say with 100% certainty that I will be out golfing in Columbus due to the unpredictable weather. Two – for the most part, every company releases the stable of new products around the first of the year. I can see what is new, maybe get a discount on last year’s model, etc. Prior to joining Golf Starz I was only able to connect with a small group of people. However, after talking to consumers all over the country, I believe that this year will be the official time for everyone to take stock at WIMB.
So, unless you live under a rock you have seen all the new clubs hit the market recently.
Tweets were used to ask how many have attempted to hit or ridden in Tour Edge clubs. Devout disclosure: Up until the PGA Show in 2017, I hadn’t swung a Tour Edge Club. It was almost 50/50. The results were almost 50/50. 49% said yes, 51% disagreed.
Recently, Tour Edge sent us the new Exotics EXS Driver.
Before we get into the review, let’s start by reviewing the basics of Tour Edge and the information it has about the driver. EXS models come in two sizes: 9.5 or 10.5 degrees. You have the option of adjusting it down or up by 2 degrees. A 460cc head. Flying Tuning System (FTS), with interchangeable weights of 9 and 3, is featured on the driver. Driver comes equipped with a 9-gram heel weight and a 3gram rear weight, which allows for draw bias. RollFace Technology, which was developed for speed, is integrated into the head. RollFace Technology has modified bulges and rolls at the feet to allow for straighter shots, even when shots are off to the side. The EXS driver, which is paired with Tour Edge’s sweet-spot technology Variable Face Thickness, makes it the “most patient driver face” ever created. This slideshow needs JavaScript.

Share the EXS with other people Posted. I saw the EXS at the PGA store last year. It was just as great as any of the OEMs and only a fraction the price. My 6 year-old Tour Edge XSG7 beta still works great and has good dispersion. I didn’t need a new one. The EXS and the new Tour Edge will be my options. However, the SIM is a great option once you have an older model.

Is it possible to be a Tour Edge driver?
The results were very good. Although I wasn’t able to hit every fairway, I was able to hit about 80 percent of them from a very long distance. A couple of the regular rotation courses I play, and I hit all my landing areas and exceeded some. This driver can hang with the best of them.

That said, at $299, the Tour Edge EXS enjoys a price-point monopoly. Tour Edge EXS is the only 2019 driver to offer the same combination of price and performance within $100. Yet, there’s still the question: How did Tour Edge achieve this?
