A typical American family doesn’t wish to overspend on groceries. This is the most common thing you can do. Just walk into Wegmans and Kroger to purchase one item. We all try our best not to.
Is Aldi Cheaper Than Walmart In 2022?
Aldi may not be as cheap or cheaper than Walmart in certain areas, such as produce and seafood. Aldi has outnumber Walmart stores 2-to-1. Walmart recently dropped prices on many Great Value brand items. Aldi sometimes isn’t the best value, though it can be quite a bit more.
Let’s take a look at some common and popular grocery products and compare what happens when they go toe-toe.
For simplicity sake, here is my basic method.
Aldi prices and Walmart prices may vary depending on their location. So for Aldi (who doesn’t list its prices online except Instacart which can increase cost) I created this Aldi pricelist as well as my receipts, dating back to the past year.
For Walmart, I used the Walmart.com website, with the location – and therefore the prices – set for a small city in the Great Lakes region.
I only compared grocery items and used only the store’s personal label.
There are no other options. Items can only be compared by the price per ounce and pound.
Last disclaimer. Prices can change in any area at any moment. This is an image of the moment and I did my best to ensure accuracy. It is not meant as an official price guide.
It is not surprising that Aldi has beaten Walmart in a number of produce price categories.
While shoppers have complained that Aldi’s produce isn’t always up to par, the stores purportedly receive new shipments every day (and the stock gets rotated – oldest produce on the top).
*Note: The only pork loin that was comparable at Walmart was Tyson brand.
Aldi has a clear advantage over Walmart in all aspects of meat prices.
*Note – Walmart only stocks Thomas brand bagel strips.
Since Walmart doesn’t carry its own brand of bagel thins, I had to use the Thomas brand as a stand-in. Walmart’s bagel thins are not as popular as if they had their own.
Aldi’s bread prices are the best in all three of these categories.
Aldi’s specialty, vanilla flavored ice cream isn’t comparable to Walmart prices. Walmart makes their own.
However, this is what they sell that is comparable, and Aldi will save you two whole dollars! And people absolutely love the flavors.
Walmart maintains a competitive edge in the pasta/grains category. Aldi can even be beat for instant white Rice.
You can still save money on your rice by buying Aldi Jasmine rice bags if there is an abundance of rice in your home.
Walmart can help you save money if your family likes Triscuit knockoffs or chips. Aldi has been the winner of every category of snack here.
Walmart’s raw honey pantry category is the one that Aldi charges more than Walmart. However, this doesn’t surprise given Aldi’s post WWII history as an artisan grocer providing basic supplies for countries rebuilding from disasters.
Aldi stocking oil and condiments is one of the most cost-effective options.
Aldi’s low prices for these basic ingredients are something that every baker should know.
This is the best item. It’s 32 cents less than Walmart’s price for baking soda, which costs 50 cents.
Aldi is a better choice than Walmart for dairy products, although they can change quite frequently. Walmart has a slight advantage on butter prices.

Aldi can be a bit more expensive than Walmart sometimes, but this shouldn’t discourage you from buying. Aldi has a lower price per cart if your goal is to cook seafood.
Walmart remains competitive with its Great Value brand. If you need other non-grocery products – such as office supplies, clothing, or video games – it won’t hurt to stop by your nearest Walmart Supercenter.
Aldi’s is Cheaper than Walmart
Aldi and Walmart both offer store brand products at a lower price than the name brands. Aldi however is a bit more affordable. Walmart has five more bags than Aldi’s, but it still comes down to the price per bag.
Aldi really is that much more expensive?
The store sells everything at a very low price. However, many Aldi products are more costly than others, according to Reader’s Digest. Aldi sells a majority of the brand name products in limited quantities so they will cost you a bit more.
