OEMs giving more precise and accurate information to consumers about the differences among their products is one trend I have observed recently. Cobra’s RADSPEED drivers are taking part in this initiative, and that is something I admire. According to their website, the RADSPEED targets 0-15 handicappers (the RADSPEED XB targets 5-15). It claims that the RADSPEED has the highest ball speed, spin, launch and workability among the new Cobra drivers. The RADSPEED XB, on the other hand, has “forward-biased RADIAL WELLING” and these performance differences are due to “forward-biased RADIAL FEIGHTING”.

One number typically jumps when I test a club. In the case of the Cobra RADSPEED driver there were two: the ball speed and the spin rate. The weight forward was the best option. I saw low spin rates, high ball speeds and very low spin rates. The downside of the weight forward position is it reduces driver forgiveness. Although I reached very high peak speeds while driving with this weight forward, mishits proved to be a significant problem.

When I switched the weight to the back position, the numbers really moved. Both the forgiveness and the spin jumped up noticeably. My average ball speed improved with this less forgiving setup, as you can see from the graph. The spin is something you might notice a lot depending on the swing.

The thing that surprised me most about shifting weights was the fact that it did not change my feeling as much. I typically find that when the weight moves forward to back, one setting is good for me and one is terrible. Both were extremely comfortable with the RADSPEED driver. Cobra may have contributed to this by radial weighting.

Cobra provided shaft options to the RADSPEED Driver. From Project X, they’re offering the HZRDUS Smoke RDX Blue [full review HERE ], which is counterbalanced with a fairly stiff tip. The Fujikura Motorex X is also offered [reviews available HERE]. Motore X F3 in stiff and regular is a good choice for players who have a medium transition. Motore X F1 comes in stiff and X. This motore is more heavy with a stiffer shaft, which allows for greater speed and aggression.

Cobra has achieved a great balance among the golf driver market in recent years. Cobra is the most popular club for amateur golfers and has the longest driving distance on the PGA Tour. This is not bad.

Looking back to the F9 Speedback driver, I can say that it has been the driver of choice for those looking to buy the best big stick at a great price online. What does “Radspeed” refer to?

Cobra calls “rad,” a slang for cool or sweet, but it really means “radius,” which is Cobra’s idea of “radius.” This refers to distance between club’s center of gravitation (CG) and where the weights will be located. Cobra went to great lengths to make the added weights to the sole of the drivers move closer to their edges. This was done to enhance MOI (moment inertia), performance, and overall speed. Cobra achieves greater “rad speed” by having a larger radius between the sole weights of the drivers and the CG at Radspeed clubs. The radial weighting strategy also helps Cobra dial in spin and trajectory throughout the entire lineup.

Callaway Big Bertha B21 It offers a lot more tech than Callaways higher-end drivers and less fuss when it comes to looks.

This club is amazing. At $459 it is also great value. The RadSpeed feels better to hit and is more forgiving though.

The B21 gets 91/100 from me, I think it’s a better club than the Epic but due to feel and performance the Cobra wins.

I prefer the understated design of the Big Bertha to look at but the Cobra just goes further and is easier to hit.
