Cobra’s brand image is much the same as many other golf brands. It is commonly referred to as the “young man’s brand” and is often forgotten by people when trying new golf clubs. You should have them in your sights.
You don’t have to worry about the CNC-milled faces producing too much spin. Simply find a lower spin, high launch shaft and pair it with the head. I only experienced a small increase in RPM with the F9 driver than other drivers.
The price is my last comment. The King F9 driver costs $448.95, whereas other brands are charging upwards of $500 for their drivers. This savings allows you to purchase an aftermarket shaft that fits perfectly your swing profile.

If you have paid attention to Cobra drivers over the last few product releases, you will notice a steady trend of improvement in both the technology applied to the product, and the way it works in tandem with the swing rather than against it. While these cosmetic changes may seem minor, F9 marks a substantial change to the overall profile of your head at both address and around the head. It is time to take a closer look at what golfers can expect with the F9 driver for the 2019 golf season.
Because of their CNC machined face, Cobra’s driver immediately stands out from the box. You get the same feeling when you glance down at its top, where the Snake logo is displayed in groove patterns. Looking deeper, I realized that the Speedback as it was known, had the weight almost touching the ground near the centre of the back sole. The yellow hue really stood out, but I couldn’t help but notice the carbon fiber crown running around the edges and along the sides of my head. It’s not something I used to looking at. Two color options are something I love, and that is exactly what excites me. The yellow, black, and red profile which is pictured throughout this review, and a more subtle black head with matte crown and white highlights.
It is clear that there are many things to discover about this driver. There are also numerous components that make the F8 and other models a vast improvement. We should first talk about carbon fiber crown. This is the part that wraps around the crown and then into the body. They can free up weight to ensure optimal placement. This allows the CG to be driven down towards the base. Cobra calls it the “Carbon Wrap Crown”, which adds 12% carbon to crown area. This saves around 10g of weight. They have introduced two stabilizing bars that run from face to back along the crown, surely strengthening the material to promote the lightest possible crown while maintaining durability.
I was able to learn more about the role of the head shape in wind drag during a Cobra meeting. Some impressive graphics were shown in this presentation that highlighted how F9 had helped the golfer to swing better. You can also place the crown elements more efficiently. They not only help support your head but frame the ball perfectly at address.
It is the F9’s low back weight that makes it stand out. The heavy weight can be thrown forward to get the best spin and launch profile, or to the back to maintain a low CG. This is determined by the location of your port. It is apparent that the placements make a significant difference to results. We tested this and found most players will prefer the heavy weight located in the back. It is quite a departure from F8 for Cobra where there was a weight both in the back and down to the heel. This allows for more draw settings.
During testing, sound was a major topic. Squared swings sound very different from glancing blows (think open face fades). To really understand the sound of the F9, a comparison was made between a baseball bat and a bat from wood. The F9 sounds closer to the crackling sound of a wooden bat when it is struck properly. However, it is not muted and is not driven too heavily by metallic tones. Personally, it was very enjoyable to hit. You could notice a significant difference between a glancing strike or a squared contact when my partner moved back and forth. We originally thought that it could be due to swing speed. However, we realized later that the quality of contact was a more important factor in the strike sound.
The dispersion throughout testing was mixed. The dispersion was mixed throughout testing. I spent a lot of time in the vicinity of the toe, and definitely on the outer circle of the face. This allowed me to maintain a straight flight while the predictable face draw came into play occasionally. One of my playing buddies shared his memories about not swinging as badly when he was swinging poorly. Also, the F9 had a good mid to high flight, with great launch and great ball flight. I believe the F9 should be considered mid-launch. However, there are some people who have greater success with the Atmos system launching the head at 12 degrees. I personally moved a more suitable shaft into the head and found some low launching and penetrating flight, with not a lot of left to right movement. However, the head seems to not be actively pushing high launch. It is more penetrating for me.

It has been called 2019 the year for the driver. All manufacturers seem to agree that 2019 is the year of driver technology advancements. While it is early in the year, it looks like companies have stepped up their game and made improvements to their drivers. Cobra is a major player in this market and I believe has set an excellent example for 2019. Distance equations have some variables as well as some standards. USGA limits the ball and COR. Limits on the player’s abilities are another. Within those parameters golf companies must work to squeeze out ever mph, every CG, every smash factor, every spin number and every yard. Cobra is setting the standard in 2019 with their ability to extract the maximum from driver swings.
There are some golfers who claim that the “war on the driver” ended years ago when the COR limit was reached. If every player swung exactly the same, and struck the same sweet spot, then this might be true. However, as it stands, there’s still plenty of opportunity to improve driving distances and accuracy. All the necessary features are included in the Cobra King F9 to enhance your drives. Speedback aerodynamics, the most prominent feature on the F9 is undoubtedly the driver’s biggest draw. These aerodynamics will help clubheads move through the air faster on every swing. The bold design of the head makes this driver aerodynamically better than any other. Combining crown, sole and face design to maximize head speed. It’s simple math: Increase clubhead speed means increase in distance. I used Flightscope Xi Tour for my testing and I had 1 mph more with the Cobra King F9 Speedback Driver than I did with the other drivers I was testing.
Cobra King F9 Speedback Driver is about speed, but the changeable weights work to reduce spin and launch too. The driver can be driven forward or reverse. You can test it and find the right settings. For me, I went ahead because I was able to handle the driver’s lower settings with a 10.5* Head. I was surprised at the way the CG did not affect the feeling and sound. The F9 is a significant driver, however, the F9 was not significantly different. It had a slightly more firm feel and the weight forward. However, the results were worth it.
The launch and spin are the most important. Cobra drivers were notorious for launching high even when they had a + model at a low loft. Cobra sent the King F9 Speedback driver with a 10.5 head. This would have been a problem for me, but it worked really well with the -1.5* setting so it was at 9*. It had a nice mid launch and low spin.
You’ll notice that I love the Cobra face technology. All models have amazing forgiveness. The E9-tech milled variable facial offers great ball speed as well as forgiveness. The tuning that they’ve created with the milled face really works. Dual roll technology creates zones that maximize miss hits. The Cobra King F9 Speedback Driver has all the best Cobra face tech for forgiveness and speed off the face.
Conclusion
Cobra King F9, a new driver for low and mid-handicap players, fills an unmet need.
If you are a 20-handicap golfer looking to improve your game, I recommend this course. It is easy to pick up the golf game, even though it may seem difficult initially. However, your skills improve rapidly.
You can purchase a starter set, which includes all golf clubs. However, this equipment will not last very long.
