Amazon won’t accept WIC payment in 2022 for groceries. WIC is not available online and can only be purchased in-store. It is administered according to state regulations. Amazon has a Prime discount available for WIC recipients.

While Amazon is not able to provide conclusive evidence that WIC was rejected by Amazon for their grocery program due to lack of data, it does have a few possible factors.
First off, WIC guidelines differ from one state to the next. Additionally, in the past the technology to administer WIC varied.
WIC was not a uniform experience in all states until recently due to these differences. Thus, the burden of meeting all the different state requirements would fall on Amazon to fulfill.
As well, up until October 2020, not all states provided WIC benefits in the form of a card. They are still available as paper checks and vouchers. These benefits cannot be used online.
Amazon: Can you use your WIC Card?
Your WIC card cannot be used for food purchase on Amazon. However, Amazon Prime can give you a discounted price.
Click the “Other” button and you can choose from a list of programs, including WIC. You’ll choose your state and then upload a photo of your benefits card or eligibility letter.
Amazon has made it very easy to sign up, so there is no reason not to take advantage of the discount, even if you can’t yet use WIC to buy food at the site.
Does Amazon Accept SNAP?
Amazon will accept benefits from SNAP EBT, with the exception of Alaska, Hawaii, Louisiana, and Montana. This can be used on Amazon Fresh or Amazon.com.
Many families that receive WIC benefits also qualify for SNAP, or the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program formerly known as Food Stamps.
Amazon SNAP uses the same rules that they use in a brick-and–mortar grocery shop. Only foods intended for human consumption can be permitted.

WIC doesn’t allow you to order food on Amazon. But, there are other payment options.
Whole Foods will accept WIC
Whole Foods Amazon is an authorized retailer for WIC.
Amazon bought Whole Foods last year for more than $13B, which made Whole Foods the centerpiece of its online grocery delivery.
You can technically use WIC at Amazon, but it’s not legal as an online retailer.
Even if Whole Foods cannot be purchased on Amazon Fresh using WIC, brick-and mortar stores can still provide your benefits.

As guidelines vary from one state to the next, these examples are only general suggestions.
Also, it’s worth noting Whole Foods may carry some of the above-mentioned products but WIC will only allow the generic forms of food.
So for example, WIC-approved chicken eggs cannot be of a specialty variety, like organic or free-range. Whole Foods relies on this kind of specialty to run its business.

Amazon to Accept WIC Futurely?
WIC is not currently available on Amazon. But, it may be in the near future. The federal government ordered that WIC state agencies start to issue WIC cards for all WIC recipients by 2020.
According to the Department of Agriculture of the Federal Government, there is an emphasis on making these benefits easy for the recipients. WIC benefits may also be purchased online.
In November 2020, USDA reported that the Gretchen Swanson Center for Nutrition got a three year grant to conduct research and build a model for internet ordering.
While SNAP has been card-based for many years and is eligible to order online, it seems only a matter if WIC becomes available.
