amazon driver job review

I used to enjoy being an Amazon delivery driver, but it’s now that it feels like we are always being watched.

Amazon claims its 270-degree camera, powered by AI, is motion activated so that it does not record every moment.

They can tell what the driver is doing. It doesn’t matter if the radio is on or I have my water. I still get a notification of a distracted driver. Sometimes if I turn my head away from the front of the van, I’ll get a ding.

It’s becoming very annoying. Every notification from a “distracted driving” driver, I get a docket of points on my safety score. Management reviews this and can either fire or dock me my hours. Amazon claimed the camera would help with safety but it felt like an invasion to our privacy.

Many drivers at my DSP are just as annoyed. Amazon has also changed its routing algorithm and marks multiple deliveries in one area as a single stop, even though the houses and apartments are spread out and are often on the other side of the block. These changes make it so difficult to do our job.

My initial thoughts were that delivery drivers would allow me to be completely free, but I found myself too limited to enjoy the freedom of driving. I often ate my lunch on the curb because I couldn’t find any park or get fresh air.
