EBT is an electronic benefit transfer. SNAP benefits were formerly called food stamps. This has made the access to SNAP funds easier and more convenient for millions of Americans, with the rise of online ordering only further increasing opportunity.
Instacart Will Take EBT In 2022
Instacart will allow you to use EBT SNAP benefits only in certain states. EBT data can be uploaded to Instacart and customers may access it during checkout. EBT cannot be used on Instacart to pay for delivery or other fees, nor can it be applied to tips.

Instacart offers EBT SNAP payment support in 37 states.
You can apply if your state is not listed here.
It means you can’t use your EBT SNAP benefits at all on Instacart.
It’s important to note, too, that not every retailer on Instacart also supports EBT SNAP in every state.
For example, the chain Price Rite has locations up and down the eastern seaboard.
Currently, the only states in which you can use EBT SNAP to shop Price Rite include Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island.
Instacart allows you to shop at grocery stores that accept EBT.
Instacart may not show a store that accepts EBT-SNAP, but it might be located in the area.

As such, these stores may not be able to accept EBT SNAP in all states.
Aldi’s, Publix, Food Lion are the grocery stores with the broadest coverage. But even those options do not cover all states or any location within an eligible one.
How do I add an EBT credit to Instacart
You can add your EBT SNAP card to your Instacart account the same way you would add any form of payment.
EBT/SNAP information can be accessed from the Account Settings menu.
You can add your card from here in the same way, and you can also set the toggle so that the app shows you what items are SNAP-eligible.
Instacart: What can you do with your EBT cards?
You can change the settings of your account (the above method) to indicate whether an item is SNAP eligible. However, it’s your choice.
Quick recap: you access it from your Account Settings, in “Account Hub” which pops up when you select the three horizontal lines in the upper left-hand corner of the Instacart app.

Once you pick a store, start shopping, and when you’re done, you navigate to the check-out.
Next, be sure EBTSNAP SNAP payment is chosen.
The price breakdown will show you how much your SNAP eligible items and non-SNAP products cost before you make your purchase.
To cover non-SNAP items, you will need another type of payment.
As well, SNAP cannot be used to cover the cost of delivery, Instacart’s fees, or the driver’s tip.
Instacart will request that you verify your purchase by using your EBT Pin as an added layer of security after you’ve checked out.
Instacart accepts EBT cash
Instacart won’t accept EBT Cash as payment for food or any other fee associated with using its app.
You will have to file a new form of payment in order to pay delivery and fees as well as driver tips.
Why doesn’t my EBT card work with Instacart
Instacart might not work for your EBT-SNAP card because of a variety reasons.
First, if you didn’t change your settings to show whether items are EBT-eligible, you might not be aware that the store you selected can’t process EBT transactions online.
A backup payment option could also be a reason.
Instacart has fees that you need to pay, even though your products are EBT-eligible.
Your EBT card may be empty. Make sure to check your balance.
